Music playing in a shop can have a number of benefits – from making staff more relaxed and friendly to customers, to encouraging customers to spend more time and money in-store. The simple act of playing music could be enough to make a customer choose one store over another.

Research was conducted by VisionCritical in April 2012 among 1,000 UK businesses and Entertainment Media Research in 2009 among 2,000 UK consumers. EMR also conducted the research in 2010 among 400 small retailers, hairdressers, offices and factories.
