Guardian Blog Asks 'Do You Want Music In The Workplace?'
A post on the Guardian blog asks if your working lives would be made better with a soundtrack? Ever feel that listening to background music would liven up those PowerPoint presentations or increase your workplace performance?
For example, would you be able to complete that complex and puzzling Excel spreadsheet any faster with Dizzee Rascal bonkering on in the background? Would the latest Blackout Crew single double your typing speed? Would you make fewer spelling mistakes and grammar errors if you could listen to James Yorkston at work?
According to the Guardian music site, the answer to all these questions is a firm "yes". They say this may partly be due to the fact that they want a reason to be allowed to play music on the office stereo all day. And they say they're not alone. In fact, according to some research, lots of people would prefer to have music on in the workplace.
A recent MusicWorks survey asked 2,000 people in offices, warehouses and factories about music in the workplace. 71% said they'd prefer music at work, 77% say that good tunes on in the background increase their productivity and a whopping 84% say it improves staff morale.
